RCMP are investigating a deadly crash north of Edmonton involving a car and a pickup truck.

On Friday at about 5:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a serious vehicle collision in Westlock County, near Township Road 612 on Highway 44, about 90 km northwest of Edmonton, Mounties said in a Monday news release.

So far, the investigation suggests a southbound Ford F-150 and northbound Chevrolet Malibu crashed head-on, Mounties said, adding that the 82-year-old woman driving the car died while a passenger in the car and the driver of the truck received minor injuries.

RCMP sent thoughts and prayers to friends and family of the victim, a resident of Chisholm, about 175 kilometres north of Edmonton.

Mounties said they are still investigating the cause of the crash and will not release any more information.
