Smith should help all, not just her base

As a newly turned senior, I find myself in the enviable position to be the recipient of $600 from our new premier. The other envied group are the parents of children under 18. Large families with many children stand to receive quite the windfall, and just before Christmas.

This is so obvious a shameful vote-buy that I am surprised she didn't wait until Black Friday to announce it. Mind you, all those recipients would have had no time to plan their shopping spree, so the Tuesday announcement made more sense for the ruling party, I guess.

Who are the biggest votingbase groups for the UCP? Seniors and parents of large families. If this government were serious about helping all Albertans they perhaps would have followed Saskatchewan's lead and sent $500 (or more) to every citizen.

My adult single children, who struggle to make ends meet with rising rents and other costs of living increases, need this affordability help more than I do. This government is more consumed with pandering to its base than it is in helping all Albertans.

So, they mismanage the province for four years, then bribe their base for their continued support?

I plan to donate my new windfall to any opposition party poised to unseat this incompetent government. James M. Fraser, Spruce Grove
