9 local organizations to give back to this Giving Tuesday

Following the commercial rush that comes with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday offers us all a moment to reflect. This global generosity movement, now in its 10th year, encourages each member of the community to come together in the name of radical generosity.

Amid inflation and changing economic conditions, support for Edmonton’s charitable causes remains more important than ever. If you want your dollars to have a local impact this Giving Tuesday, here are nine businesses and foundations that would benefit greatly from your generosity.

The AIMCO Foundation for Financial Education

Everyone deserves to feel the freedom and empowerment of being financially literate and stable. The AIMCO Foundation for Financial Education was started in 2018 by a dedicated group of employees at Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCO). Since then, the Foundation has delivered more than $770,000 in grants and scholarships within Alberta. Past grant recipients include a post-secondary institution’s Indigenous financial coach, a non-profit helping cancer patients navigate income replacement and drug compensation programs and an organization that offers budgeting, banking and credit basics specifically for women. Please consider supporting us in our goal of empowering financial literacy in Alberta. aimcofoundation.ca/donate

Dreamspeakers Festival Society

The Dreamspeakers Festival Society presents artistic works which reflect the diversity of the world’s Indigenous nations and illustrate the vitality and excellence of our art and culture. We produce the annual Dreamspeakers International Film Festival (DIIFF 30th anniversary April 2023), as well as the Rubaboo Arts Festival (14th anniversary June 2023) presenting works in traditional and contemporary performing and visual arts. We host the Walk of Honour, a permanent tribute to Indigenous trailblazers, currently with 19 international inductees. We are artists, teachers, Knowledge Keepers, connectors and advocates. Your gift will support artists, platforms for expression, anti-racism work, networking, training and provide community wellbeing. dreamspeakers.org • 780-378-9609

Edmonton's Food Bank

Edmonton’s Food Bank does not receive funding from any level of government for our programs and food purchases. We provide festive food staples during the holiday season and we help people with food hampers that consist of fresh and packaged food throughout the year. It is because of donors like you that we have been helping people in need for over 41 years. We are grateful to our generous donors and appreciate your donation as part of Giving Tuesday. edmontonsfoodbank.com

Goodwill

Your donations are making a positive IMPACT! Donations is where our journey begins at Goodwill. Your support means more Albertans with barriers to the workforce are finding meaningful employment than ever before. These gently used household goods are being sold in our retail stores, with 90 per cent of funds raised going back into our mission. THANK YOU, because for nearly 60 years, Goodwill is proud to be a part of the greater Edmonton region and your contributions continue to make our community a place for the better. goodwill.ab.ca/donate • 780-944-1414

Habitat for Humanity

Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts. This Giving Tuesday, Habitat for Humanity is taking time to let our supporters know that we appreciate their thoughtful generosity. Your gifts have a life-changing impact on parents and children in our community as they work towards affordable home ownership. We thank you – our donors, volunteers, and Restore customers – for choosing Habitat for Humanity. Hfh.org/give

The Mustard Seed

This Giving Tuesday, help The Mustard Seed change the lives of your neighbours in need. Your gift will provide essential care and services such as food, shelter and basic needs to those experiencing homelessness and poverty. The Mustard Seed provides a supportive haven where we support the whole person through delivering basic services, housing, wellness services and employment programs, and partner with the community to address the root causes of poverty – your generosity makes a difference! theseed.ca

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army has been serving Edmonton since 1893, providing practical assistance to our city’s most vulnerable. Addiction recovery care, hot meals, Christmas assistance, back-to-school supplies, transitional housing, clothing, toy hampers and more are available to help people build a better life for themselves as we walk beside them on their journey. Help us continue Giving Hope Today by making a donation or volunteering at a Christmas Kettle. salvationarmy.ca/alberta • 780 423-2111

Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation

Our population is growing, and that means more kids than ever need access to the world-class Stollery Children’s Hospital. From broken bones to brain surgery, Stollery care gets kids there — kids like Morgan from Edmonton. Morgan lived with seizures her whole life until April of 2021 when she underwent a four-hour brain surgery at the Stollery. She spent four days at the Hospital recovering and returned to school just nine days later and has been seizure-free ever since. Donors like YOU help make sure kids from backyards across Alberta, like Morgan, have the best chance to live a long and healthy life. Stollerykids.com/donate
