AARON SORKIN `OUGHT TO BE DEAD'

Aaron Sorkin says he had a stroke in November. The screenwriter, 61, told the New York Times he woke in the middle of the night and crashed into walls on his way to the kitchen.

The next morning he had surgery. Sorkin's doctor said his blood pressure was so high that he “ought to be dead.”

Sorkin said that after the stroke, he slurred his words and had trouble with typing.

“There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again ... Let me make this very, very clear — I'm fine,” he said.

Sorkin, a heavy smoker, has since quit the habit. “I thought I was one of those people who could eat whatever he wanted, smoke as much as he wanted, and it's not going to affect me,” he said. “Boy, was I wrong.”
